Pizza, scrabble and a walk

I had a date last night. Someone new. I was nervous but I found when I arrived he was twice as nervous as I, so it made it less stressful. Just two humans connecting over pizza and scrabble. Sharing point for point why we are unique and alike. Not too much pressure (well the scrabble was harsh–he kicked my butt–but then he’s an English teacher and says he’s only lost two games previously).

We found we had things in common (music) and things not in common (politics and olives), but the differences weren’t so harsh that we didn’t laugh and smile. I’m not fond of dating and the effort I’m making to get out and meet people is new for me. It’s an uncomfortable space—but I’m finding bits of joy here and there. Especially when I meet someone who can make me laugh from the belly.

Is it love? Too early to tell–and not really my primary objective. But I will see him again, and it will be good.
