My gratitude

November 27th, 2003 Posted in Older Notes

Winter looms ahead. The trees are shedding their skin. Falling into a slumber dotted with frenzied commercial about beating the clock. SAVE. SAVE. SAVE. Keep pace. Don’t forget anyone on your list. Christmas tunes ravage my brain and I haven’t had a single bite of turkey yet.

Take a step back. Slow down. What are we thankful for this year? Disregard the menacing peddlers of wears. Shoo the buzzards away and see the falling leaves.

I am thankful for my friends. Those that I see and talk to everyday and those who I only get in touch with occasionally. Friends who give support even when I don’t always deserve it. Friends who know the worst parts of me, yet like me anyway. Friends who make me laugh and cry. Friends who know the meaning of the word friend.

I am thankful for my family. They are always there ready to give advice when needed, or not. My family gives me wings. They drive me to be a better person, while accepting me as I am.

I am thankful for myself. It is often hard to say, “I love you and I appreciate you” to yourself. However, I have a quote that often rotates into that right corner in my side bar. It is a Buddhist saying that says, “You yourself, as much as anyone in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection”.

Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the season, may it be filled with friends, family and most of all your own boundless gratitude for life.
