Oooooh. Ahhh. Gulp.
What’s that? Oh, don’t mind that, it just the sound of me taking a drink of water. Who knew a glass of water was so heavy.
I decided to really push myself in the gym yesterday. Punishment for overeating, perhaps? Naw, I’m not into self-flagellation. I just decided to up the intensity on my upper body workout. Yowza. I feel it today.
My workouts thus far have been hard, but not really intense, and I figured since I would only have one upper body workout this week I would see how much I could do. It was good, I love that shaky feeling when you push your muscle just far enough to let em know you mean business. And I can now officially do 2 regular straight leg push ups. I’m not sure when the last time I was actually able to do that, never perhaps.
I remember gym class in elementary school and those Presidential Fitness Tests. How many sit-ups can you do in a minute? Push-ups? Pull ups? Yeah right. Pull-ups. The only kids who could actually do those were boys and some very skinny girls. Not Syd the Chub.
And the running test. How fast can you do a mile? Run, an entire mile? Forget it. Sweating wasn’t my thing. Who knew 20 some odd years later I’d actually complete a 5k and run regularly?
The only test I could pass and excel was flexibility. I may have been chubby, but I could do the splits as well as Marylou.
I’m very bendy.
And! Now I can do push-ups and run too. Watch out! Syd the who?

A real push up. WOW! I really wish I could do a chin up, like Demi Moore in GI Jane. And, a one handed push up. YIKES!

OMG!!! I used to hate those dreaded presidental fitness thingys. I would gag when the gym teacher said we had to do them!!!
Eyuck. But, it is interesting to see how times have changed. LOL The things that we detested the most about it are the things we really need to survive.

Yeah, I hear you. I just changed around my upper-body routine and right now I hurt everywhere from the waist up. But I’ll be very happy when I can finally do a real pull-up.

So many places to go with the “I’m very bendy” comment, but I’ll get it go! ;-D

I remember those silly presidential fitness tests - I was always really good at sit ups - I still am, I just have too much fat covering the muscle, you can’t see ‘em!
Congrats on the push-ups! They’re so hard to do with good form, but once you can do one with good form, I’m sure you’ll improve really fast!
