If it takes all night, that’ll be all right. If I can get you to smile before I leave.

Go strong, go long, but be warned if you don’t take care of yourself it will catch up with you. This morning I woke to face a myriad of cold symptoms: drip, sneeze, cough, groan. I need to sleep more, eat better and start taking my vitamins again.

Thoughts on the run this weekend. I had trouble right off getting into a good breathing rhythm. I think this contributed to a major stitch that struck in the last mile. I guess I was excited. But also, it was my fastest time thus far, which may have also been a factor.

Quite frustrating, I haven’t had a stitch since I was just starting to learn how to run a year and a half ago. My splits were 11:13, 12:30, 11:15. Total 35:03, my best time to date. What do they say, I’ve improved my PR. I’m pleased considering the circumstances: 4 hours of sleep the night before, travel, sleeping on a couch, eating poorly, smoking and general bad behavior.

During the run, I felt poorly about being so far at the back of the pack. However, when I got my final time, it was hard to be disappointed. TCC and Rose both placed 2nd and 3rd respectively for our age group. I came in right behind Rose. We all did really well. And it’s funny that just before the run I gave us all a little pep talk, “No matter how we all finish, the important part is we are here. We showed up and that means we are successful.” Well, it was advice I had to take from my self. I didn’t place and I wasn’t leading the pack, but I made a 10 minute improvement over my first 5k back in February. I showed up and I showed up well.

Saturday night after the run Rose and I went out to a Halloween party with Ms. Pants, Miss Directed and Natalie. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a reason to get dressed up on Halloween. I had a lot of fun dancing and making eyes at my girls. I didn’t end up getting to bed until 8 am. So in effect, between Friday and Sunday, I only slept about 8 hours. I’m a wee bit wore out today—but I have no one to blame but myself and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ll take the consequences, snotty nose and all. I had the best time.

Photos? Sure, there are photos, and more here and here.

This week should be less hectic. I hate to say that because it almost guarantees that it won’t be.
