Last year, I was wrapped in the wonder of my new digital camera and the things I could do with manual exposure. I spent the Christmas season taking photos of every light, bauble, tree, decoration, sentiment and expression of the holiday season.
This year, I’ve nary looked at my camera. I’m going through a fallow period with my photography where the juices are pooling for the next evolution. I planned to take photos of lights this evening, as a remark on the eve of the Day of Christ’s birth, however it’s raining and I’d prefer to sip my hot cider and snuggle with my dog.
Perhaps tomorrow if the day is less wet, or even the next day—it will probably take people another week or so to take the décor down. And so, I have no cheery 2006 holiday photo to share. Instead I’ll pull one from the vaults that expresses just what I’m thinking about Christmas this year.
He was born to a virgin on a quiet peaceful night among the beasties and dirt of poverty. He came with a message. Love one another. He came as evidence to God’s mercy and forgiveness. Man is a wretch creature by nature. Our saving grace and consequential ruin can be found in our capacity to choose.
May you find blessings in the choice to act through the indiscriminate lens of love and peace this holiday season.
