A major windstorm blew out power all over the area last weekend. Ours was out only for about 24 hours. I took the opportunity to brush up on Boggle skills and read. There are still some people without power, and there has been a bit of a crisis with folk trying to stay warm by burning charcoal in their houses. I’m sad to say there have been a few fatalities in the Seattle area. The newspaper this week ran warnings and cautions in several different languages on the front page. Visually, it looks pretty neat—plus it serves a function to save people’s lives.
While the idea is sort of morbid—it reminds me of the ice storm I experienced in North Carolina. I didn’t have power for a week. There was no firewood to be found—anywhere. There were some felled trees so I stacked them in the fireplace and lit charcoal underneath to dry them out. After a while, and a hazy phone call to a family member (older and wiser) the realization of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning were made all too real. That’s one way to learn a lesson.
I immediate opened all the windows and aired out the toxic fumes, which of course didn’t do anything for the heat issue. Eh, well, I just put on more clothes. So, all of this is a lead up to this weeks Photo Friday submission - theme: weather.
This was taken in North Carolina after that particular ice storm. Everything was coated in ice. It snapped trees all over the state. This photo is a negative image of the branches of a tree in my backyard.
