Maia’s Blessings

Flowers In A Nutshell

When I was a child, one of my favorite tales was of a tiny girl named Thumbelina. She was no bigger than a thumb. She went through a series of trials including being kidnapped by a frog and betrothed to a mole. The mole detested beauty or flowers and preferred the darkness under the dirt. Thumbelina knowing she’d be relegated to the darkness went up to see the beauty of flowers one last time. There she found a champion in a bird that swept her away to field of flowers and told her to pick her one as her own. And after she chose her flower, she found the prince of faeries appreciating the same flower. He was immediately distracted from his flower gazing and asked the beautiful diminutive woman to marry him. She accepted and was give a new name, Maia, and a pair of wings to accompany her husband as he ruled in peace over all the faeries.

While I was walking with my dog the other day I found this walnut shell, which reminded me of the itty-bitty girl. And so, I picked some tiny flowers and put together this little bouquet in her honor. And also, as an entry for this week’s PhotoFriday theme, blessing.
